What Readers Are Saying about Maccabee "This is a gripping and moving tale that covers an era that is not much written about and Carson manages to make it come alive with a marvelous mixture of history, information and a vivid imagination . . ." BookPleasures.com "Maccabee is as dark as is to be expected of a chronicle of genocide and resistance, and brings events of history to vivid life. Highly recommended." Midwest Book Review "Like John Jakes has made American history personal for me, David Carson uses real historical personalities to tell the story of pre-Christian Jerusalem. This actually made it fun to learn about the deep roots of the Middle Eastern conflicts." Amazon.com review "I can definitely see this being made into a movie - 'Braveheart' meets 'The Gladiator.'" Amazon.com review "This is not junk-food literature; there is substance here in an entertaining drama. The story builds momentum throughout, and leaves one wanting more." Amazon.com review
"The world yearns for another Judas. I never thought I'd ever write that sentence! WELL DONE." Amazon.com review

Thank you for stopping by. As you can probably already tell, the primary focus of this site is the history of the intertestamental period. Most Christians do not understand the importance of what happened during the approximately 400 years from the time of Nehemiah to the birth of Christ. In the Old Testament there is no mention of Pharisees, Sadducees, or synagogues. These are all part of the narrative of the New Testament with no word of how they came to be. These parts of New Testament society have their roots in the intertestamental period. Besides the development of these social elements, 400 years of history shaped Jewish thinking such that the world into which Jesus entered was considerably different from what it would have been had He come at another stage of history. To accurately interpret the New Testament, it therefore behooves the reader to have some sense of the world at that time and the events that shaped it. If you haven't already, I hope you will read my book Maccabee. It is the first of four projected works that are being written in a way to make intertestamental studies entertaining while being informing. As you will discover from reading the articles on this site (which will be added to as time permits), you will find that I have not limited myself to intertestamental studies. Basically, I have put here anything that I think might help in the understanding of Biblical truth.
